Three Step PBL is an original Project Based Learning format, developed by the professionals of our firm to create a bridge between training activities and operational reality, it is a learning opportunity set in a real-world context.

The limits of an artificial environment

Many years of experience and consulting in many different organizational settings have led us to identify recurring critical issues that, thanks to the development of the 3 Step PBL format, we have turned into an opportunity for our clients.

Typical exercises and simulations, role play, in basket and business case, proposed for assessment, development centre and development paths confront participants with an environment that, however sophisticated and realistic, is artificial. This reduces opportunities for observation and learning.


The 3 Step PBL asks participants to work in a context, albeit protected, of reality, putting them in front of real challenges and offering them the opportunity to generate real results.


The 3 steps gradually shift the focus from professional competence to organizational competence, stimulating both the thinking dimension and the relational dimension.


The process details are designed ad hoc and allow you to define and calibrate the specific focus of the intervention both in terms of specific skills stimulated, and with respect to the particular target population and in line with the client's strategic objectives. It can be carried out both for individuals and for groups of colleagues.

Three learning steps, all immersed in reality

1 - Problem Solving

The first step requires participants to find a solution to a real problem of a non-profit partner. It is a task that allows participants to deal with concrete data, real people and to get help or delegate as they would in any of their professional activities.

2 - Generation of Efficiencies

The solution identified for the first step, on the facilitator's mandate, requires a certain budget to be implemented. In this step, candidates are invited to explore their organization to identify potential efficiencies that can free up that amount.

3 - Generation of Value

The identified efficiencies must finally be translated into a business plan that can be presented to the board to be evaluated for its actual sustainability and possibly approved. The goal is to generate a one-off donation for the non-profit partner and, from the second year, value for the client.

The value generated by Three Step PBL

  1. For participants it is an opportunity to put themselves to the test in a protected real-world context, allowing them to observe and develop themselves by managing increasing degrees of complexity.
  2. For the organization it is an opportunity to observe in practice if and how participants are able to generate sustainable solutions and efficiencies that have a real impact on the balance sheet.
  3. Finally, the participants, and through them the entire organization, generate concrete value in terms of professional solutions and possible one-off donations for the non-profit partners involved.

Our projects, last but not least, are carried out in support of our non-profit partner Ronda Carità e Solidarietà onlus Milano to whom we donate the equivalent of the profit generated by this service.
